Edmonton Trail, from 28 to 41 Avenues N.E. has been reconstructed this year under the Major Roads Reconstruction Program. By the end of November, reconstruction work should be mostly complete.
Edmonton Trail was closed for a week in late October between 33 and 37 Avenues in order to replace major underground utility crossings. This work was done in conjunction with the reconstruction project. In spite of the snow on Oct. 27, crews were able to complete this work and open the road again by Nov. 1.
The road is now open to traffic, although some localized access disruptions and lane closures will be required during November in order to complete any minor remaining work. This primarily includes concrete and landscaping work next to the road. If winter weather conditions do not permit the completion of some items, any remaining minor work not completed this year will be completed in the spring.
Once the construction season has ended because of weather, the road will be open to four lanes of traffic.
The sidewalks on both sides of Edmonton Trail have been replaced. All bus stops that were re-located during construction have been returned to their original locations. The streetlights have also been replaced along Edmonton Trail.
The next phase of the Edmonton Trail Road Reconstruction project includes the area from 16 Avenue to 28 Avenue N.E. This work is tentatively planned for 2014. More information will be provided when it becomes available.
